CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — A 29-year-old woman was found guilty this week in a severe aggravated arson case and remains accused of the separate, fatal shooting of her sister in a disturbing sequence of crimes, according to court proceedings and investigators.
On January 15, 2026, a jury deliberated for approximately 45 minutes before finding Brittani Harmon guilty of aggravated arson. The charge stems from a prior incident where Harmon allegedly set two fires inside a Chattanooga residence. The blaze forced a woman to leap from a third-story window to escape, causing severe head and spinal injuries. The victim survived but did not testify at the trial.
Prosecutors detailed that Harmon set fires in a living room being used as a bedroom, burning items belonging to her boyfriend, Nelson Moore. Surveillance video presented in court showed Harmon leaving the home at a “brisk pace” just before the fire became visible, followed by two men fleeing the smoke-filled building. Harmon now faces a mandatory prison sentence of 15 to 25 years for the arson conviction.

When police responded to the home, they found Brianna Harmon deceased on a couch with a gunshot wound to the back of her head. Detective Brandon Septor testified that the bullet exited through her cheek and lodged into the furniture. Multiple firearms were recovered from the residence.
At the time of the fatal shooting, Harmon was on probation. The aggravated arson case was prosecuted by Nicole Evans and Paul Moyle and heard by Judge Amanda Dunn. The homicide case remains pending as the community grapples with the violent crimes linked to one family.
